Welcome to I DO CASTINGS!

So what happens first? You can call me on 07817 234 906 or email me at rose@idocastings.com to discuss your cast & book in a suitable time to come and see me at my home studio. When you first arrive at the studio I have lots of samples to show you - We can chat about the pose and the finish of your final piece. There is options to have them wall mounted, with a plaque or free standing - Lots of decisions to be made! I will make sure you have all your questions answered about safety, allergies and what to do. Once we know exactly what you would like from your cast we are good to go!  Each session can take between 30 mins - 2.5 hours depending on what we are casting.

BABY CASTS: If you are having a cast of your baby I will make sure you are comfortable with a relaxed baby (with a feed due or pacifier/distraction) .  When we all feel ready I will mix the alginate in a container and hold your baby's hand/foot that is coated in vaseline in the mix until it sets - which will be just minutes. I will then wriggle your baby free and the cast is ready to be filled with a high stone content plaster. Don’t worry if your little one is a wriggler! We will always make sure we do another cast if I feel we need another go. You are then free to go - And thats when the work starts for me to produce your final product. All the materials I use are safe for your baby.

FAMILY CASTS: If you are having a family wreath or torso casting I will use the alginate first, then just before it sets cover it with cotton wool, then put layers of mod rock plaster bandages to support the mould before your hands/torso can be wriggled free. A family wreath or torso takes a little longer. Once your cast is done you are free to go. And that's when I will begin to work on your casting. All the materials I use are safe for your body & family.

FINISHING YOUR CAST: There are lots of factors as to how long it will take for your cast to be finished. The plaster will need to fully dry out and this can take weeks depending on the size of the cast. Rebuilding, sculpting, sanding and clean up of the final cast takes hours of work. I will keep you updated of how the piece is going and will call you before I apply the final finish to confirm all the details. I am happy to chat about things more on the phone or via email so please get in touch! There is more information on the FAQ page of the website.
